"Building Balanced Leaders for the Worlds Communities"
The Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity was established at Richmond College in Virginia on November 1, 1901. The fraternity was founded on three principles: Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love. Sigma Phi Epsilon is currently represented on over 250 college campuses with an enrollment of more than 14,000 men, making it the largest fraternity in the nation in regards to undergraduate enrollment. Nationally, Sig Ep is a fraternity of firsts. It is the first fraternity to: establish a housing trust for all chapters and create a National Housing Corporation, to establish a traveling staff to assist chapters in effective operations, to charter a chapter in all 50 states, to have the fraternity's Educational Foundation build an endowment greater than $11 million, to recieve a grant from the federal Department of Education to enhance member development programs, to provide financial assistance to brothers for graduate school through the Resident Scholar Program, and the first national fraternity to partner with the White House's Office of National Drug Control Policy.
California Chi Chapter
Sig Ep at Loyola Marymount University was colonized in 1996 and chartered in 1997. We pride ourselves on our use of the Balanced Man Program, a program that instead of the pledge process emphasizes a lifestyle based on the three principles of virtue, diligence, and brotherly love alongside the four pillars of the balanced man: Scholar, Gentleman, Leader, and Athlete. This program has lead to great successes for the California Chi Chapter. Since it has been established at LMU, the brothers of the California Chi Chapter have been involved in various facets of the campus, including: distinguishing themselves as ASLMU presidents and senators, LMU valedictorians, Division 1 and NCAA and club sport athletes, members of service organizations, members of honors societies, and in many other areas.
Nationally, the California Chi chapter has repeatedly been recognized as one of the top chapters in the United States. The California Chi chapter has been awarded the Buchanan Outstanding Chapter Award, the highest Sig Ep national award possible, every year it has been eligible (five). The chapter is also in the Phi Beta Kappa Wheelhouse with above a 3.15 GPA. Members of the California Chi Chapter have the opportunity to be involved in various activities not only on campus, but through Sig Ep Nationals, including participation in the: Edge New Member Camp, Carlson Leadership Academy, Ruck Leadership Institute, and the Tragos Quest to Greece. Last semester, Cal Chi became the first non-housed chapter to become a Residential Learning Community, giving members an opportunity to take classes specific to the values and principles of Sigma Phi Epsilon.
"This fraternity will be different, it will be based on the love of God and the principle of peace through brotherhood."
